Africa’s biggest cannabis convention gets underway in Sandton this week. Over 100 exhibitors are lined up for the event which includes, a freedom festival, psychedelics expo and food fair.

South Africa’s third cannabis expo of the year kicks off in Sandton on Friday 18 November 2022 with a presentation from the Eastern Cape Rural Development Agency on establishing a global cannabis market in Mpondoland, in the Eastern Cape. The Johannesburg Cannabis Expo, which features many high-power speakers and new consumer offerings will run until Sunday 20 November. Tickets cost R200 at the door, and are cheaper if you buy here now.

Thousands of people are expected to attend the Expo, which has become a celebration of cannabis culture in Gauteng, with music, food, cannabis products on offer and a line-up of the country’s top cannabis experts to speak on the status of the industry. It is Africa's largest cannabis gathering, with an estimated 18 000 attending last year's show.

The Cannabis Expo, held earlier in Cape Town and Durban, has become a critical part of the cannabis network, where many business deals are discussed and consumers can sample the latest products on offer. A special feature this year will be presence of presidential cannabis advisor Garth Strachan who will be part of a high-powered panel speaking on cannabis investment in South Africa at 15h00 on Friday 18 November at the convention stage.

Other keynote panel discussions include a presentation of the latest cannabis products “out there”, and the status of medical cannabis, which will feature Dr Shiksha Gallow who is principle investigator in South Africa’s first official cannabis study to see to what extent cannabis can replace opioids.

Experts who will be offering their views are Leading cannabis lawyer Paul Michael Kiechel of Cullinan and Associates, Dr Blessed Okole from the CSIR, Ayanda Bam of Zagata Consulting, Linda Sibota and Trenton Birch of Cheeba Africa, Dr Ahmed Jamoloodeen and Dr Regina Hurley of Truleaf, Tebego Thlabane of Biomuti, Cliff Giesenow of Leafolo, Darryl Weisz of Silverleaf Investments, Ross MacPhail of Theracann International, Anthony Cohen of Elixinol, Wesley Petzer of Cannavigia, Dr David Katerere of the Tshwane University of Technology and Dr Thandeka Kunene of the House of Hemp.
