Invegrow founder Tanya Clarke had a vision way back when, as to how hemp could transform Malawi’s economy. She persuaded a resistant government to begin hemp trials in 2012 with a view to reducing the country’s dependence on raw tobacco exports and replacing them with finished hemp products. Thanks to her persistence Malawi has moved into pole position as Africa’s hemp pioneer, 86 licenses have been issued, clear guidelines are in place, seed is available and there’s an urgency to get the first harvests this year.
