A recent police raid on a house in Masson Street, Kabega Park shows just how varied the choice is for consumers from the ‘illicit market. During the raid Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) police seized 19 kgs of cannabis and a range of ‘related’ products worth over half a million rand.

Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa says Nelson Mandela Bay Crime Intelligence had received information about a large amount of drugs that were allegedly kept and sold in a house on Masson Street, Kabega Park.


She said SAPS applied for a search warrant, which was authorised, and proceeded to the mentioned house.

"On arrival, they were granted permission to enter, and upon searching, they found drugs, cannabis, and cannabis products," she added.


Lt Col Mawisa revealed that during the investigation, police recovered the following items with an estimated street value of R550 000: 


  • cannabis (19 kg), 

  • shrooms (605 grams), 

  • MDMA (63 grams), 

  • CBD tablets (42 tablets), 

  • DAB (13 envelopes), hash (5 balls), 

  • CBD oil (2 bottles), 

  • CBD Vapes (33 vapes), 

  • oil syringes (17 syringes), 

  • chocolate edibles (31 units), 

  • dagga zolls (330 zolls).


The person resident on the property, Brent Van Asperan (40), was arrested for drug possession.and then released on bail of  R3 000 after he appeared at the Gqeberha Magistrate's Court on 13 August 2024, 


Lt Col Mawisa said , "Police also recovered his licensed firearm, a 9mm Taurus with a magazine and ammunition, and two cellphones, which were seized for further investigation."


"According to the information, it is believed that the suspect is a supplier around Gqeberha; however, the police investigation is continuing."


He will appear in court again on 13 September 2024.
