Specialized Security Services (SSS) has put out a public notice that anyone who comes across one Christopher Hayden Miles Webb, who “ruthlessly betrayed peoples’ trust”,  should contact their nearest police station in connection with a cannabis fraud investigation.

Webb, whose believed to be from Gauteng but whose whereabouts are unknown, is accused of defrauding an unknown number of unwitting investors out of hundreds of thousands of rands in a cannabis scam three years ago.

SSS, which handles specialist investigations, says it received a distressing call from the investor who wishes to remain anonymous. The man said he had put R100 000 into a cannabis scheme sold to him by Webb, who presented himself as “a facilitator for securing funding for various projects, claiming to have connections with overseas investors”.

“Unfortunately, what transpired was a complex web of deception and financial exploitation” said SSS’s specialist investigator on the case, JD Pienaar. “Several individuals, including our client, were enticed into investing R100,000 each in what was promised to be a cannabis project on their respective farms."

“This initiative was supposedly funded by foreign investors, and Mr Webb offered to assist in securing this funding. Regrettably, despite the promises and ongoing negotiations that commenced back in February 2023, they have not received any funding to date”.

Pienaar says when Webb was contacted, he agreed to repay their investments within five days, but that “commitment remains unfulfilled”.

“What makes this case even more concerning is that upon reaching out to the alleged overseas investors, it was discovered that they had no knowledge of Mr Webb or his operations. It is clear that he has misled our client and potentially many others, with the intention of siphoning money under false pretences.”

Pienaar says anyone with any knowledge of Webb should contact their nearest police station as a case was being built against him.

“If you have been affected by Mr Webb's fraudulent actions, please reach out to us. Sharing your experience can help us compile important information and collaborate with authorities to seek justice.”
