About David Frost
Frost represents an industry that has been smacked sideways and then some by the Covid pandemic. Could canna-tourism be one of the ways of clawing back international tourism spend? Frost believes so. He thinks it could be conservatively a R2 billion industry that would especially benefit tourism operations in rural areas such as former Transkei, Mpumulanga and Limpopo. The former trade unionist and tourism lobbyist is the first spokesperson for the tourism industry to have cottoned on to what the National Cannabis Master Plan may hold for an embattled sector. We like his ‘canna-do’ imagination of going for the millennial market, packaging adventure with chill, developing township tourism, of Cape Town being the new Amsterdam, and how the wine industry could be a model for the development of a whole new tourism market. SATSA has over 1 300 inbound tourism operator members; Frost is encouraging them to take ownership of the NCMP and explore what the legalization of cannabis may mean for South African tourism. This is exciting guys!
